Hello there. After writing those words, I paused for a long time. That jar of pickled vegetables last time—did I put too much salt in it? My mom pickles better than me. I only remembered the gist of it. During those two days with the High Temperature, the ceiling kept spinning. I thought, that Window across the way is still lit, so I'll hold on a bit longer. I really did make it through. [Today I must do well too]—that line wasn't written carelessly. When all this is over... I want to tell you in person

What you thinkThe words that followed were crossed out and rewritten, over and over again, until the paper had worn thin and fuzzy. The last half of the sentence stopped there, with the pen tip pressing down to create a small blot of spreading ink. She didn't sign her name.

Picked up the pen and realized I've never properly written a letter in my life. Crossed out the first line three times. That pair of pliers last time—I filed the jaws down again. I picked the trade up watching an old hand on the sites and never learned it more than half right, so if they still feel off, say the word and I'll take them back and fix them. Those two days with the fever I was out of it; I'd stand up and the room would turn. I lay against the windowsill a long while, and the lamp across the way was still on. Then I'll get through one more night, I thought. And I did. "Take care today, too"—my handwriting is poor, but I didn't write that carelessly. I'm no good at saying things like this. But there's one I've held onto too long—when all this is over, I want to tell you in person
