Exiled's Toolkit: A shared library for my Survival Log mods. It shows their short notices (toasts) beside the HUD, holds the entries they add to the inventory's Mods dropdown, lets them apply changed settings at once, and keeps their buttons and phone apps tidy. On its own it does nothing you can see; install it when another mod says it needs it.

Exiled's Toolkit is the shared part of my Survival Log mods. Right now it gives them five things. The first is toasts. A toast is a short notice that appears next to the phone, defense and other tool buttons, stays a few seconds, and goes away by itself. Mods that use the Toolkit show their messages this way instead of each drawing their own. The second is live settings: mods can apply a changed setting while you play, so a change in the Mod Manager works without restarting the game. The third is the inventory's Mods dropdown: mods add their own entries to it, all under one button. The fourth keeps the HUD's tool buttons tidy, in columns of four. The fifth puts the apps mods add to the phone into its dock, in rows of four. Mod authors: see For mod authors in the README.

Highlights

Beside the HUD

toasts sit to the right of the tool buttons, above the action queue. You can put them in a screen corner instead.

Small and tidy

compact warm-brown cards in the game's gold style, with a coloured edge for info, success, warning or error and a thin bar along the bottom that shows how long the toast has left.

Layered

several toasts lie on top of each other, newest in front. Rest the pointer on one behind to bring it to the front with more of its text, and the items it is about, when a mod lists them.

Never in the way

toasts never take keyboard focus, and they hide while the pointer is on the tool buttons or a full-screen window is open.

Hover to keep one, click to open

a toast stays while the pointer rests on it. When a mod gives a toast something to open, clicking it opens that; the small x just closes it.

Repeats merge

the same notice sent again counts up (x2, x3, ...) instead of adding another box.

No pile-ups

at most 4 toasts show at once by default; the rest wait their turn.

Tidy tool buttons

the column of buttons on the left of the HUD never gets taller than four. The rest go into a column to its right, top to bottom; the phone and bag stay where they are.

Tidy phone apps

apps that mods add to the phone go into the dock at the bottom, after the game's own, in rows of four.

The Toolkit adds nothing to your save and does not edit game files.

Works in English and Chinese.

Toasts

[Toasts]

Toasts lie on top of each other, newest in front. A toast stays while the pointer rests on it, for up to about 15 seconds, then leaves as normal; resting on one of the toasts behind brings it to the front.

Toasts step aside rather than cover the game: they hide for a few seconds while the pointer is on the tool buttons or the speed buttons (with Hud), and while an open window takes the whole screen or has a button where they would be. Their time keeps running while hidden.

Values outside a range are moved to the nearest end of it.

Install

  1. Install BepInEx (if no other mods were installed before, start the game once so BepInEx finishes setup, then quit).
  2. Download the zip from the Files tab on Nexus.
  3. Extract it into the game folder (the folder with SurvivalLog.exe). The zip holds a BepInEx folder, so the DLL lands in the right place. When asked, merge the folders. The result should be:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Survival Log\BepInEx\plugins\ExiledToolkit.dll

Where it goes

Survival Log\
├─ SurvivalLog.exe
└─ BepInEx\
   ├─ plugins\
   │ └─ ExiledToolkit.dll
   └─ config\
└─ com.dev.survivallog.exiledtoolkit.cfg (made on first start)

Uninstall

Remove every mod that needs the Toolkit first; they will not load without it. Then delete ExiledToolkit.dll from the BepInEx\plugins folder.

Settings

To move the toasts, change how long they stay or how many show, or turn them off, use the Mod Manager's Mods screen in game, where changes take effect at once, or edit BepInEx\config\com.dev.survivallog.exiledtoolkit.cfg while the game is closed (see CONFIG.md; the cfg file explains each setting in English and Chinese).

Changelog 10 versions

  1. 0.9.2On NexusGame 1.1.19611
    • Fixed: the phone was very laggy since 0.9.1. Mod apps still go into the dock as soon as the phone opens.
    • The HUD buttons, the toasts and the Mods button do much less work while you play, so the game runs more smoothly with several mods installed.
    • Made for Survival Log 1.1.19611.
  2. 0.9.1Game 1.1.19611
    • Mod apps on the phone are in the dock the moment the phone opens, instead of showing up a moment later.
    • Made for Survival Log 1.1.19611.
  3. 0.9.0Game 1.1.19611
    • The Mods button is now also in the bag panel of the workbench, stove, ration press, greenhouse, drone hub, brewing barrel, dye vat, rat cage, material rack and shop screens, not just the inventory. It lists the actions that work there. The shredder and the drone trade are left out.
    • For mod authors: page-script entries in the shared menu can ask to be listed on those screens too (stations: true). Entries added with ModsMenu stay on the inventory.
    • Made for Survival Log 1.1.19611.
  4. 0.8.0Game 1.1.19131Game 1.1.19611
    • New: mod apps on the phone go into the dock at the bottom, after the game's own apps, instead of stacking in the middle of the home screen over the notifications. Past four apps the dock shows rows of four.
    • For mod authors: mark a phone app with data-etk-phone="<order>" to have it placed in the dock.
    • Made for Survival Log 1.1.19131; works on 1.1.19611.
  5. 0.7.0Game 1.1.19131
    • New look for every mod's toasts, in the gold style of the newer mod windows: warm brown cards, a coloured edge for the kind of notice, a gold count badge, and a thin bar along the bottom that shows how long the toast has left. The bar stops while the pointer rests on the toast.
    • For mod authors: ToastRequest.Items lists the items a toast is about. They show as small chips with picture, name and amount on the toast the pointer rests on, and as one line of text on the cards behind it. Two toasts merge only when their items match too.
    • Made for Survival Log 1.1.19131.
  6. 0.6.0Game 1.1.19131
    • New: the HUD's tool buttons stay four high. When mods add enough buttons that the column on the left would grow past four, the rest go into a second column to its right, filled top to bottom. The phone and bag stay in place, and toasts move right to clear the wider column.
    • For mod authors: mark a HUD button with data-etk-dock="<order>" to set its place in the layout.
    • After a game update, Mod Manager can tell you if this mod may need an update.
    • Made for Survival Log 1.1.19131.
  7. 0.5.0Game 1.1.18902Game 1.1.19131
    • New: the inventory's "Mods" dropdown. Mods that need it, such as Loot All Pre-Disaster, add their entries to it through the Toolkit. It shares the one button with Storage Hub's and Unpack All's own entries.
    • For mod authors: ModsMenu.Add puts an entry in the dropdown, with English and Chinese text, an icon, and a rule for when it shows.
    • Toast settings apply at once when changed in the Mod Manager: the position, the time on screen, how many show at once, and the off switch.
    • The Mod Manager shows the Toolkit with its name in Chinese, a description and its GitHub page, in the Libraries group.
  8. 0.4.0
    • For mod authors: LiveSettings.Watch applies a mod's settings while the game runs, once per frame on the main thread, and tells the Mod Manager the setting needs no restart. The Mod Manager 0.4.0 needs this version.
    • For mod authors: ItemValues reads and writes the item list and item amount strings behind the Mod Manager's item pickers.
  9. 0.3.0
    • No visible change. Mod Manager needs this version.
  10. 0.2.2
    • First release.
    • A shared library for my Survival Log mods.
    • It shows their short notices (toasts) beside the HUD.
    • On its own it does nothing you can see. Install it when another mod says it needs it.

Help

Known issues

  • A toast covers whatever is under it. A game button under a toast cannot be clicked until the toast goes. Move the toasts with the Position setting if they are in your way.
  • Toasts that hide for an open panel keep counting down, so a short one can run out before the panel closes.
