The entire wall is a single blackboard, where chalk writing has been repeatedly erased and rewritten, leaving ghostly traces. A few notices that were never taken down are still pinned in the corner.

What you thinkThe top line shows that day's date and class schedule, but below it someone has forcefully crossed it out and rewritten it in crooked, large letters: "Don't go home, head to the gymnasium." The chalk has punched several holes through the blackboard over the word "gymnasium."

The bulletin board on the back wall of the classroom still has decorative borders made of colored construction paper, now faded to a grayish white.

What you thinkThe header reads "My Dreams," with a row of small handwritten cards posted below. You count them and notice the one in the corner has only a crooked drawing of a house with "Miss Mommy" written beside it. Chalk dust drifts down softly.

The blackboard on the first floor of the teaching building, where the original writing has been wiped clean and replaced with neat tables.

What you thinkThe header read "Daily Distribution," with class-by-class listings of headcount and allocation amounts below. The numbers grew smaller each day, and by the ninth day's column, the denominator remained but the numerator was blank. A piece of chalk sat in the tray, only about the length of a fingernail remaining, surrounded by white marks from repeated erasing and rewriting.

The bulletin board at the end of the hallway, where the original layout has been completely covered over, plastered with notes of various sizes.

What you thinkEach slip of paper bore a name followed by details like "Grade 2 Class 3," "wearing blue jacket," "scar on left hand." Several had been taken down and reposted, with tape layered three times thick. The topmost slip had the neatest handwriting and looked the oldest.
