Stop alt-tabbing to look things up. Field Guide puts the Survival Log Database (items, crafting, maps, loot and more) in a window inside the game, right where you need it.

Highlights

Look it up with /

hover an item in your backpack, on a trader's shelf or in a workbench (brewer, cooker, freezer and the rest), or a location on the map, and press / to open its page.

Put it where you want it

drag the window by its title bar and resize it from any edge or corner. It opens where you left it, at the size you left it.

Text size

A- and A+ on the title bar make the text smaller or larger. The window keeps it.

Window buttons

minimize the window to its title bar, maximize it to fill the screen, or close it, from the top right.

a book button in the bottom-left tool column opens and closes the window.

one button downloads the whole site (about 150 MB). After that the guide reads it from your PC with no internet, and offers an update when the site has a newer one.

while the pointer is over the window, typing goes to the site's search and the game's hotkeys wait.

Saved inBepInEx\config\com.dev.survivallog.fieldguide.cfgChange them on the Mod Manager's Mods screen, or edit the file with the game closed.

Install

  1. Install BepInEx (if no other mods were installed before, start the game once so BepInEx finishes setup, then quit).
  2. Download the zip from the Files tab on Nexus.
  3. Extract it into the game folder (the folder with SurvivalLog.exe). The zip holds a BepInEx folder, so the DLL lands in the right place. When asked, merge the folders. The result should be:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Survival Log\BepInEx\plugins\FieldGuide.dll

Uninstall

Delete FieldGuide.dll from the BepInEx\plugins folder. The offline copy is in BepInEx\FieldGuide; delete that folder too to free the space.

Settings

Change the hotkey, where pages come from (online, offline or automatic) and the saved window place in BepInEx\config\com.dev.survivallog.fieldguide.cfg while the game is closed, or in game on the Mod Manager's Mods screen (see CONFIG.md; the cfg file explains each setting in English and Chinese). Changes take effect at the next game start.

Known issues

  • Lookups work in the backpack, the trade screen, workbenches and the two maps. Other screens are coming.
  • Without the offline copy, reading the site needs an internet connection.
